Many of you will know of Chili's passing last week and already share our grief.
She had gone on a walkabout, perhaps being called for a higher purpose, and was shot.
We don't know who or why, and maybe that's for the best.
She died later at Cypress Creek Animal Hospital in the loving hands of Drs Henry, Young and Ansley
with Helen and friends by her side.
It was her time and she did not complain. She passed quietly.
I was with my brother Jeff having a wonderful lunch of fresh oysters and a crisp bottle of rosé on the coast in California when Helen's first report reached me. There is no easy way to share news like this, nor to receive it.
Initial reports were promising: no internal organ damage, and later critical low blood pressure,
and then she was gone.
We are reminded how ephemeral life can be, how fleeting each moment, and how precious.
One minute an oyster rockefeller and 1700 miles away our dog is gone.
We were/are devastated.
Everywhere we look, Chili is not. And yet she is.
She lives on in our hearts with reminders everywhere.
She is home now for good in her little box safe from thunder and lightning,
from fireworks and gunfire, resting beside Ruby, guarded by teddy bears.
