It is an exciting time of year for the grape growers. Harvesting of the Becker vines will begin this week. Grapes from other properties in the Hill Country and from vineyards in the High Plains of Texas will be heading our way for processing into the almost 20 wonderful varietals and blends of wine that Becker produces. Check out their website at BeckerVineyards for fall events and come out for a tasting one afternoon. I am there most Saturdays and would love to see you.
This image was taken on my way to work on a beautiful Independence Day in the Texas Hill Country. A cooling breeze pushed the clouds. The ever changing light added texture to sky and land. This is my kind of commute.
A week after the image in the previous post the tall grasses that danced to the wind are cut and baled, rounds of the bounty of this land. The farms along Upper Albert Road are a constantly evolving panorama that change with the season, or the weather, but remain the same. And, like them, I am constantly grateful for these spaces. The choice of routes in the Texas Hill Country is amazing. Multiple paved paths feed these ranch roads that service local markets. RR1623 is a classic one that connects Blanco with Stonewall. It follows the Blanco River for a few miles before heading north and there are a series of these weirs that pool the water and then allow it to overflow and continue downstream. The stillness of these refreshing back waters is a living mirror to the shifting skies.
