For the past few days the wind has been gathering in the morning and then sending great clouds scudding across the blue sky. Clouds add perspective, texture, and motion to static 2D images. You can almost hear the gusting wind bending the tall green grasses to its rhythm. I pass by this B&B on Upper Albert Road often now and am continually intrigued by the terracing of this expansive front view. You can see more images of this area on thirstyworks.
Our land is rocky, largely overgrown with second growth cedar, and many of our oaks need to be groomed. What you see above is a well managed field with healthy, maintained oaks providing shady grazing in the lush grass cover. These fields along Upper Albert Rd are within a comfortable day's ride (by horse) of Fredericksburg, Texas, an early center for the new Americans from Germany in the middle of the 19th century. These fields have been worked...cleared and groomed and shaped...into some of the prettiest farm land in America. These still working farms preserve a way of life that has not changed all that much in 150 years
...and they're proud of it.
...and they're proud of it.
There is a 'Texan' scale to this land. Vast fields and pastures under big skies. People who may have come from the confines of the Black Forest in Germany have opened up this fertile land and their good stewardship continues to reap the bounty.
The above 4 images were all shot on the same day and within a 5 mile area of the Texas Hill Country. The variety of landscape is multiplied by the position of the sun, the changing weather and the season. These are bold transformations and they happen all around you...all the time. I am one lucky guy to have this chance to explore my surroundings and share what captures my heart.
